Admission – Herberger Business School

  • 2.65 GPA or higher overall
  • completion of 45 credits, including HBS 111, ENGL 191, CMST 192, MATH 196 and ACCT 291
  • grade of “C” or better in MATH 196, ACCT 291 and IS 242
  • enrollment in or completion of ACCT 292, BLAW 235, ECON 205, ECON 206 and IS 242
  • grade of “C” or better in an introductory computing course

Academic Standing – Herberger Business School

  • 2.00 GPA or higher overall

University minimum requirements for bachelor’s degrees

  • 120 credits
  • 40 credits in Liberal Education
  • 45 credits in upper-division (300-400) courses
  • 30 credits in residence at SCSU
  • 2.00 GPA overall, in major, and in minor (departments may set higher standards)

There is a need, both domestic and worldwide, for people equipped to deal with international business activities in private as well as government sectors. The international business program prepares the graduate to be effective in modern organizations that compete in a global environment.

Bachelor of Science

International Business Major (72)
A major in international business includes the general education requirements, the business core (44 credits) and the 27 credit major requirements.


Required (12): Functional concentration in one of the following four areas:

--MKTG: MKTG 416 plus 9 MKTG credits at the 300/400 level as approved by adviser

--MGMT: MGMT 470 plus 9 MGMT credits at the 300/400 level as approved by adviser

--FIRE:   FIRE 473 plus 9 FIRE credits at the 300/400 level as approved by adviser

--ECON: ECON 474 plus 9 ECON credits at the 300/400 level as approved by adviser

Required (9): 3 of the following 4 courses (not already taken in the functional concentration): MKTG 416, MGMT 470, FIRE 473, ECON 474.


Electives (6): 3 credits from IB electives approved by adviser (can be an additional course in the area of functional concentration).  3 credits of study abroad or other credit bearing international experience as approved by adviser.  (This requirement can be waived if student takes a 200-level or higher language course (in addition to the required one year of 200-level coursework) as approved by adviser.

Completion of MKTG 416 with a grade of "C" or better fulfills the upper division writing requirement for the international business major.

The international business major requires certification of a threshold level of competence in one foreign language. This level can be attained by satisfactorily completing one year of 200-level sequence of courses or by passing an examination administered through the foreign languages and literature department, which will provide a certification of competence to the records office prior to graduation.

International Business Minor
Minors are available to students in nonbusiness and business majors. In addition to taking international business and other business courses, students are encouraged to complete some language, cultural coursework, or study abroad.
